How to commission a new stained glass panel:
Designed and made to suit your space, my stained glass panels are unique to you and will last for generations. Whether you would like large domestic or public window and door panels or a small suncatcher, please get in touch to discuss your ideas.
For larger installations, initial site visits are required and are free of charge (if local). I need to design an appropriate piece of art that may well be an integral part of a home or public space for a long time.
After measuring the space and discussing design ideas and glass colours, the patterns for cutting the stained glass are drawn up and the glass cut. If there is any painted or stained detail on the design, this is applied to the glass and fired on in a kiln. The stained glass panels are then built using the glass and lead came which is soldered together. Lead-light cement is applied to strengthen the panels and make them waterproof and this needs to be left to dry for several days making them structurally strong for moving during transportation and installation.
Smaller items are made using the same traditional stained glass panel making techniques as the larger panels, or using a lighter weight, more delicate finish with copper foil.
Recent Stained Glass Commissions
Commissioned pieces can have pretty much any design you like, I just need to be able to cut the glass and the leadwork needs to give structural strength to the panel as well as flow with the pattern. I work on contemporary pieces or use an older more traditional pattern.
For these panels, my customers had the designs ready and came to the workshop to choose the glass colour and textures. These are going into an external door which they are making and will also fit the windows.

This stained glass and lead panel was made for my customers bathroom door. It needed to be obscuring but able to let enough light through to the corridor. We worked on the design together, choosing glass colours and painted effects to come up with a colourful, distinctive stained glass panel.
A great stained glass project to work on. This panel was designed for an internal window, separating a corridor and a bathroom area. The brief was to replace the existing clear bevelled glass panel with something a bit more obscuring and with a landscape theme. I spent time with my client discussing designs and glass colours and came up with this. It looks great from both sides and different features are picked out depending on the lighting. My client also visited the workshop and cut some of the glass to go in the border of the panel.
This stained glass installation was a set of five panels around an internal porch door-set. The top two panels above the door are single sheets of glass, cut to size, continuing the colour and flow of the overall design. The other three panels are a glass and lead pattern of roses, leaves and landscape background. After an initial site-visit to take measurements, discuss ideas and look through glass samples, the rest of the design was done via email.
